2009 International C. elegans meeting logo contest

For 2009, it was decided to have a contest for the meeting logo. People can decide what will work on the website, shirt and abstract book. The logo should be 1-3 colors preferably (for ease in printing and to keep the costs low). The logo should be made in Adobe Illustrator (.ai) with Pantone colors attached in the email. Entries should be sent to Ahna Skop (skop@wisc.edu) by August 8th, 2008. Personal contact and lab info should be inlcuded. The "prize" will be the honor of being chosen to have the design on the website, t-shirt and program book.

Wormbase updated...

The page of Wormbase was updated recently with some new information about molecular data of C. elegans.

Since the present month, there is also a new release schedule which will be now on a monthly base. New releases of the database will occur on the final Friday of each month. Will be available on the development site a week later, and on Wormbase two weeks thereafter.

A preliminary document showing dates of upcoming WormBase releases is available on the WormBase Wiki.

European Worm Meeting 2008


European Worm Meeting 2008 will take place from March 29th to April 2nd 2008 in Carmona (Seville), Spain.


Third East Asia Worm Meeting 2008


The East Asia Worm Meeting 2008 will be held in Shanghai this year from April 18 (Fri)- 21(Mon). The meeting will be held at Ruijin Hospital Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine.

Following the successful launching of the first EAWM in Awaji Island, Japan in 2004 and the second EAWM in Seoul, Korea in 2006, this third EAWM held in China is bound to be an exciting event to bring colleagues together for a fruitful exchange and to highlight the recent progress in the field. It will also be a good opportunity for us to get acquainted again.

The housing and travel information is available at your finger tips. The registration period will end on February, 29 (24:00 Tokyo time), so you may need to start planning ahead for the trip now.

2 nd C. elegans Development and Evolution Meeting:


The meeting will be held June 11 – 15, 2008 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus.

The meeting will commence on Wednesday evening, June 11th, with an opening session from 7:30 PM until 10:00 PM, followed by a social from 10:00 PM until 12:00 midnight in front of the Wisconsin Union Theatre. The meeting will end on Sunday, June 15th, at 2:00 pm.

To submit an abstract, follow the instructions for Web submission. Submissions must be completed before midnight on Monday, April 7, 2008.

Certainly all the nematologists already heard about the species Caenorhabditis elegans...

For sure is the most known species due to its importance as a genetic model. It was the first multicelular organism with the complete genoma analized, concluded in 1998...
