Just a quik reminder that the deadline for registration in the Workshop on ‘Meiofauna from chemosynthetic deep-sea environments’ is next 30 June 2010.

The workshop has been organized by the Census of Marine Life project ChEss (Biogeography of Deep-Water Chemosynthetic Ecosystems) in conjunction with the 14th International Meiofauna Conference at Ghent University for July, 17 2010. This workshop is organized by Monika Bright and Ann Vanreusel and we would like to invite you to attend for free.

The aim of this workshop is to bring together meiofauna researchers who are interested in any biological aspect concerning deep- sea reducing environments, such as hydrothermal vents, cold seeps, whale falls, sunken wood, and areas of low oxygen that intersect with continental margins and seamounts.

We will have sessions in which we will discuss the current state of knowledge of biogeography, biodiversity and abundance, ecology, origin and evolution, morphological and molecular phylogeny, and taxonomy, and future plans. Further we will discuss the possiblities of multidisciplinary and integrative research, building a platform of researchers to combine our efforts in databases, field programmes, and outreach activities.

Symposium Antarctic-South American Interactions

The international symposium on ‘Antarctic-South American Interactions in the Marine Environment’ aims to provide a forum where the scientific community will have the chance to debate this issue, besides gathering results from both continents in their latest academic efforts.

The symposium expects the attendance of scientific and non-scientific delegates with diverse background, including undergraduate and graduate students, post-graduates, researchers, general public, and government representatives.

The symposium will happen in Rio de janeiro (Brazil) and the deadline for registration is next 15th October!

41st Annual California Nematology Workshop

The Joint Meeting of the 55th Annual Soil Fungus Conference and the 41st Annual California Nematology Workshop will happen from 23 to 25 March, 2009 at University of California Cooperative Extension (1432 Abbott Street, Salinas, California 93901).

The Annual California Nematology Workshop, now in its 41st year offers participants the latest information on nematodes. The event is sponsored by University of California's Departments of Nematology at Riverside and Davis as well as by the Nematology Program of California's Department of Food and Agriculture. The focus is typically on topics related to plant-parasitic and beneficial nematodes, but they include other contribution featuring the world's most abundant group of multicellular animals. This year's joint meeting with SFC offers an exciting opportunity for all participants to discuss interactions among the various soil organisms.
